Essential for a wide variety of construction-related tasks, these solidly-built and exceedingly rugged vehicles are used in anything and everything from civil engineering applications to infrastructure development. Here are the top heavy equipment brands of 2013.


1The venerable Caterpillar Inc. has been a familiar name in the construction industry throughout the latter part of the 20th century, and the company is still very much alive to this day. Recognizable for the distinctive “CAT” logo painted on its yellow vehicles, the U.S.-based company manufacturers a wide range of heavy equipment including standard tractors to hydraulic-powered excavators. The largest construction equipment manufacturer in the world, Caterpillar had an estimated $70 billion in assets in 2013.
